Diary of a Black Mathematical Modeller: I can’t breath!

Today I am taking over the twitter account @MinorityinSTEM. This blog will give you an insight to my week as a professional mathematical modeller. However before I talk about maths and science, I can not ignore what is happening over in America. As  the great Dr Martin Luther King once said “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”

When the Police officer put his knee on George Floyd neck, he had the power to let him live or let him die. George Floyd was saying “I can’t breath, I can’t breath…” but his plea for his life were ignored and he died. As a Blackman this brings so much pain to my soul. In watching that news clip I saw a glimpse of my heritage past – slavery and colonialization (where Black people were killed without any consequences) and a fear for the future ( will Black people still be killed without consequences). Quoting a local Radio DJ – Trish Adudu. “The world is in a dark, strange, angry, unequal place for all sort of reasons. But I’m grateful to see in another day. RIP George Floyd, I pray Justice wins…”
