Diary of a Black Mathematical Modeller: The Final

Diary of a Black Mathematical Modeller: The Final

Friday 10:46 5th June 2020

When I took part in @Aperiodical The Big Internet Maths Off. The main objective of the organisers was not to find out who was The World’s Most Interesting Mathematician – but it was to showcase the depth and breath of mathematics. Different mathematicians, different style of presentation and different speciality. Yes things did get competitive at times, but some times, us mathematicians are more competitive than sportsmen and women!

Today in tribute to @Aperiodical, and through me taking over @MinorityinSTEM account for a we, I ran a voting competition for the Most Inspirational BAME in STEM.

My objectives was to highlight the strength and depth of BAME talent in STEM!

It was hard for me to choose 16 competitors but no body can argue that the four finalist Angela Saini, Anne-Marie Imafidon, Roma Agrawal, and Maryam Mirzakhani. All are true champions of their field and an inspiration to all people of STEM.

It has not gone unnoticed that this is an all women final and so send a message about Diversity!
